groSolar Launches "Join the Green Grid" Initiative

Encourages Fast, Simple Adoption of Solar Electricity

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – groSolar, the first nationwide installer of residential solar power systems, announced today the launch of its “Join The Green Grid” program for California homeowners (JoinTheGreenGrid.com). The program incorporates existing federal and state incentives into a comprehensive solar financing program that allows homeowners to install solar systems for as little as $1,000 down.

The “Join The Green Grid” campaign also has an educational component, aiming to increase public awareness of the “Green Grid” alternative, and connecting like-minded people in a movement away from an insecure, unsustainable energy supply and towards clean, reliable, US-based electricity.

The program consists of the following components:

  • SOLAR ELECTRIC FINANCINC PROGRAM – Get three months free solar electricity with SunRun financing. While solar financing programs have been readily available for commercial scale installations, until now homeowners have had to bear the high installation costs themselves. Now, for as little as $1,000 down, groSolar will partner with SunRun financing to design, install and maintain a complete residential system; the homeowner simply pays for the monthly solar electricity generated with low, fixed rates.. The first three monthly power-payments are covered in full by groSolar. The program is currently available in California and Massachusetts.
  • PUBLIC AWARENESS AND EDUCATION – groSolar also partners with 1BOG, a community outreach organization that encourages solar energy use in San Diego. Through this unique partnership, homeowners, can learn how simple it is to go solar and join the Green Grid. groSolar has prearranged special group rates for the 1BOG partnership.
  • SOLAR CONNECTORS COMMUNITY BUILDING – groSolar will soon launch a pilot of its “solar connectors” program in California. The program rewards homeowners for coming together with friends and family to learn about the advantages – economic and environmental – of joining the Green Grid.
  • gro ENERGY WATCH – Now you can see the results of going solar on your computer screen! groSolar is pleased to announce groSolar’s “gro Energy Watch.” Those on the Green Grid will be able to view real-time energy production via the Internet. The immediacy of the information allows groSolar customers to better understand their home energy.
  • Getting the Word Out – groSolar is supporting the Join the Green Grid program with a substantial marketing/advertising program in the San Francisco and San Diego areas. The campaign can be seen on billboards, subway stations, buses, shelters, in newspapers and heard on KPBS in San Diego and KRSH in Sonoma County.

“Our goal is to create a movement that recognizes the future lies in adopting solar energy for our homes and lifestyles,” said groSolar co-founder and CEO Jeff Wolfe. “We are leading the way toward a Green Grid where everyone is part of the solution.”
