Social Responsibility at groSolar

The culture of Social Responsibility runs strongly through groSolar. Of course, our mission is centered in solving one of the world’s biggest problems. But we work to solve some pretty big problems that are present in our individual communities too. Because of this, we were awarded the

Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility
Terry Ehrich Small Company Award for Excellence in Socially Responsible Business

But groSolar does not exist to win awards, groSolar exists to act. That is why we continue to take actions that further our mission and social responsibility. Some of our major projects include:

  • Habitat for Humanity – Albany NY region
Installing solar PV to a series of 16 homes with support from NYSERDA PowerNaturally program. This project has started and will be ongoing for the next year. The house shown was a “Blitz build, with most of the house (including the groSolar PV system) installed in a single 24 hour day.

  • Twin Pines Housing Trust – White River Junction, VT
Installing solar PV on two low income homes supported by the trust.
  • Project LightHouse – Nicaragua
groSolar has donated over $20,000 of solar equipment for use in health clinics, homes and village centers.

These are in addition to the myriad of cash donations we make to local groups each year.

Our staff also volunteers countless hours of their own time as:

  • School Board members
  • Trustees and Board Members of non-profits
  • Raising money for charities
  • Members of state commissions on business, energy, and environment
  • Members of state and national solar energy boards
  • Members of national environmental group advisory boards
  • Testifying at legislatures

Maybe this is part of the reason that groSolar has twice been named “One of the Best Places to Work in Vermont” (our headquarters location).
