Solar in New Hampshire & Vermont: Commercial Installations

New Hampshire, as well as the rest of New England, is known for its rolling green hills and beautiful vistas. But there are a few groups working in New England to make sure it remains pristine. One of these groups is the North Conway Water Precinct, in North Conway, New Hampshire. The wastewater facility uses the latest wastewater treatment technologies to preserve the local rivers and surrounding valleys. As well as wastewater, the plant treats septage and leachate which also helps reduce the environmental impacts on the surrounding New Hampshire area.
Now the plant is doing even more to make sure it keeps New Hampshire green. Last fall they received grants to help fund a solar and geothermal project that combined will be the largest green energy project in New Hampshire. The 167.4kW solar electric system is being installed by Vermont based groSolar and will generate at least 45% of the electricity that the facility uses. Combined with the geothermal system, the solar system will save the Precinct around $6,000 per year in electrical costs, with the solar system providing about two thirds of those savings.
groSolar is expected to finish the solar panel installation this month, with the system up and running in mid-August, providing yet another way for New Hampshire residents to make sure that their state stays clean and green for future generations.
The North Conway Water Precinct is not the only green-minded company in New England that’s choosing to take the next step towards going green. In Burlington, Vermont, the City Market Co-op recently installed a 31.28kW groSolar solar electric system that will power about 3% of the Co-op’s energy needs. The Burlington Co-op works with a green-minded mission to bring local food to the city, which reduces transportation emissions. The Co-op also has a strong reusable bags campaign, offers affordable efficient light bulbs and more, helping local Burlington and surrounding residents make the transition to going green that much easier. And getting solar installed was just the next, obvious step!
