Customer Spotlight: Barre, VT

Alfred and Carol Blakey of Barre, Vermont became interested in solar power when they saw an article about how Jeff Wolfe, CEO of groSolar, grew up in a house built in 1720 and still has reverence for historic buildings and preservation. This caught the Blakey’s eye because they have a house that was built in 1908. They realized that powering their home with renewable energy was the next important step for them. Now was the time to go green and install a solar power system on their house. Alfred said that, “50 years from now the photovoltaic system will not be benefiting us, but will be benefiting the children”. When talking about solar power Alfred described it as an investment, because you will spend money on it now, but it is going to earn you money back for many years to come. The Blakey’s solar power system was made much more affordable by the incentives, tax rebates, and grants that the state of Vermont offers for residential solar power. With this affordable 14 panel system offered by groSolar, Alfred and Carol can generate 51% of the electricity they use. The Blakey’s are very happy with their PV system because they are saving themselves money and doing something that is good for the environment and that will benefit future generations to come.  Alfred and Carol believe the more people who switch to renewable energy will lead to us all being better off.
The Blakey’s have a website with lots of information about their solar power, so if you would like to learn more about their story and their experience with solar power and groSolar go to
