groSolar Opens Second Vermont Office in Rutland

City of Rutland, VT – September 4, 2013 – groSolar, celebrating 15 years in business, has announced it is leasing 1,000 square feet of office space in Rutland’s Opera House on Merchants Row.  The solar PV engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm has offices and facilities in White River Junction as well as in Maryland.  This sign of continued support for local Vermont business will create new jobs in construction project management and operations & maintenance to assist upcoming projects.

"This new location is a direct link to Green Mountain Power’s Solar Capital effort; we wouldn't be here if not for GMP," said groSolar Executive VP for Business Development Steve Remen.  "GMP's leadership is making Rutland a focal point for solar development in the region, and we want to support that effort and be a meaningful part of it.  This expansion will help us do that."

“We are fortunate that our business continues to grow in Vermont.  This is where we began and where we continue to be successful.  As our firm expands and grows across the US, we continue to strengthen our roots and supply clean energy projects to communities in the Northeast,” says Jamie Resor, CEO of groSolar.  “We anticipate initially staffing the Rutland office with members of our business development, project management, and engineering teams, and expect to increase our presence as groSolar’s activity expands in the region.  We are bullish on the opportunity in Rutland County and southern Vermont and see this as a key step in creating a stronger presence over time."

"GMP is thrilled to welcome groSolar to Rutland and look forward to working with them," said GMP President and CEO Mary Powell.  "This is exactly the kind of company we hoped to convince to come to Rutland, and we are confident that groSolar will be a great addition to the community and the Solar Capital effort."

Brennan Duffy, Executive Director of Rutland Redevelopment Authority, commented, “This announcement is another positive step in what we believe will be a continuing influx of private investment and job creation into Rutland City related directly to the Solar Capital initiative.  News like this sustains our optimism that Rutland City, in partnership with Green Mountain Power and great companies like groSolar, is quickly becoming a regional hub for energy innovation.  We are very pleased to welcome groSolar and look forward to supporting them as they grow their presence here.”

Throughout Vermont, groSolar has completed commercial solar installations in open fields and on school, nonprofit, and manufacturing rooftops.  They have recently completed a 2.49 MW project along Route 7 in New Haven.  This past February groSolar designed and built a system at the Fletcher Allen Healthcare Milton Family Practice, which will supply 40% of that facility’s energy needs.  In addition, groSolar completed solar systems on the roof of Green Mountain Coffee and at the VT Air National Guard, a project which is visible from the Burlington International Airport tarmac.
