Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority Installing Solar Project with NY-Sun Grant

Ogdensburg, NY - October 29, 2014 - Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority is pleased to announce that it has selected groSolar to design, build and operate a 1 megawatt solar project at a site owned by the Authority on Tibbitts Drive in the City of Ogdensburg.  Once operational, the solar project will produce clean electricity to meet 100% of the Authority’s requirements.  The Authority collaborated with Larsen Engineers of Rochester, NY to solicit bids from solar developers and selected groSolar to develop, construct, own, and operate the project for the Authority.

The solar project will be financed in part by a grant from the NY-Sun Competitive PV Program which is administered by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).   NY-Sun is a $1 billion initiative of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s to advance the scale-up of solar and move the state closer to having a sustainable, self-sufficient solar industry. Governor Cuomo announced in September that a total of $94 million in grants are being awarded to develop 142 solar projects across New York State.

"This is an excellent example where the Authority can capitalize on Governor Cuomo's leadership and NYSERDA funding opportunities in order to promote sustainability and reduce electrical costs," said Wade A. Davis, Executive Director of Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority.

The solar project will comprise approximately six acres, and consist of approximately 4,000 photovoltaic modules.  The project will produce approximately 1,550,000 kilowatt hours of clean, renewable electricity.  This clean energy equates to 175 homes powered for one year or 125 cars taken off the road for one year.

“groSolar is excited to be working with the Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority and NYSERDA to bring clean, reliable electricity to the North Country Region of New York State,” stated James Resor, CEO of groSolar.  “Our relationship with the Authority combined with financial support from NYSERDA will ensure the solar project is a success.  We are proud to add this project to our 15-year history of bringing solar energy to our customers.”
