Community Energy Solar has formally switched on its 5 MW Keystone solar project in Lancaster County, Pa. Exelon Generation and Community Energy's retail marketing division have committed to buy the project's output and back the financing for the project, which will provide local solar energy to customers that sign up for a share of the generation.

Several customers have already signed up for a share of the output, including Franklin & Marshall College, Eastern University, Clean Air Council, the Philadelphia Phillies, Millersville University and, most recently, Marywood University and Juniata College, the companies note.

The project, completed by contractor groSolar, called for the installation of approximately 20,000 Canadian Solar 290 W modules on fixed tilt ground-mounted aluminum racking provided by Schletter. The modules were interconnected to the PPL Electric grid at 12 kV with AE inverters and platforms.

The companies note that the modules were installed on driven posts in order to avoid soil disturbance, and the site will be maintained with selected cover vegetation to preserve and improve organic soil content.
