groSolar Offers SunRun Solar Financing

  Posted By:  Amanda Gillen

Did you know that if you live in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Massachusetts you can go solar for a very low down payment (a couple of thousand dollars) and a fixed low monthly payment for your solar electricity? Often times your monthly solar payment is less than what you have been paying your utility company, plus the rate you pay for solar electricity won’t change even as utility rates increase. Sound good, huh? Find out more about SunRun solar financing in your state:

California

New York

Pennsylvania

Massachusetts

Don’t live in one of the states listed above? Don’t worry, strong local, state and federal incentives and low module pricing make solar affordable and within reach for most homeowners. Find specifics for your state on our Solar by State map. United_States_allon_nobkgd

Too Good To Be True?

SunRun-logo smallgroSolar has been working with SunRun solar financing in MA and CA since earlier this year and during that time we have been trying to get the word out about this program because of the amazing benefits for homeowners. However, it seems like we always run into the following when we try to explain this program.

  1. It’s too good to be true.
  2. I just don’t believe it.

What people are having a hard time believing is that they can get solar electricity installed on their home for as little as $1,000 down. $1K versus the $25K or $30K it would otherwise cost out of pocket. The homeowner then has a flat monthly solar electricity payment that they are making to SunRun which doesn’t change for 18 years. Yep, fixed for 18 years, can your electric company do that? What happens at the end of the 18 years? You can purchase the system at a deep discount (you’ll be told what the system cost will be when you sign up at the very beginning), you can extend the agreement with SunRun or (gasp!) you could remove the system.  But hey, your system will be still be making clean electricity so why would you want to remove it?

Here is a link to a blog post from SunRun that explains this whole program pretty well and also provides a real world example of a couple in Needham, MA. Check it out here.

Kim & Richard Loring, groSolar’s first customers in Massachusetts to use SunRun financing, were featured on New England Cable News (NECN) to talk about their system, why they chose solar and how the SunRun residential power purchase agreement finally brought solar within reach. Check out the video on NECN.

Jaws are dropping.

One person hollered, ‘I can FINALLY afford to go solar, woo hoo!’

Going solar in Massachusetts has been dramatically changed, and I wish I had peoples’ reactions on tape. With our new SunRun program, it’s as little as $1,000 to get a solar electric system on your home—then, you just pay for what the system produces! We can usually set the price for this electricity at or below what you are currently paying per kWh and lock it in for 18 years. SunRun owns the system for you. They maintain and monitor it daily. Since utility rates continually increase, our customers will save significantly and have clean electrons powering their home!

I spoke with a couple planning on retiring soon. They are going to have a fixed income, and this program will actually be a way for them to keep their energy costs stabilized, making it much easier for financial planning. An already retired couple pointed out that the solar electric system will be their legacy—a gift to future generations.

With the engineering expertise of groSolar and the game changing financial services of SunRun, solar power is within reach for nearly every home owner in Massachusetts– solar power to the people!
