Customer Spotlight: Kensington, CA |
Kay Blonz, a resident of Kensington, California recently made the switch from fossil fuels to solar power to generate her electricity. Kay has always been interested in solar power, a number of years ago she built a passive solar home in Davis California. So deciding to go solar was an easy choice for Kay. Kay heard about groSolar through One Block off the Grid. One Block off the Grid is an organization that gets groups or communities together to do a group purchase of solar power systems to lower the price of the initial cost. In Kay’s case One Block off the Grid contracted groSolar to install her 4.32kw PV system. The system is able to completely power her Kensington, California House and when she is not using the power she is generating with her system Kay gets to take advantage of net metering because she is connected to the grid. The net metering process allows any extra power that the solar panels produce and that is not being consumed to go to the power grid. When this happens the meter is basically being turned backwards giving the owner credit to use that same amount of power later on when maybe the sun is not shinning so brightly. Kay is very happy with her system and glad to no longer be reliant on fossil fuel for electricity.
